Between 6 p.m. June 3 and 12:33 a.m. June 4, someone broke into a residence on the 9000 block of Massie Curve. The upper bedroom windowpane was shattered and $780 in property was stolen.
Between 10 p.m. June 1 and 6 a.m. June 2, someone stole items from a vehicle parked in a residence on the 11000 block of Welters Way. The stolen items included a set of golf clubs valued at $1,100 and $100 bag.
"Minnesota children under age 8 and shorter than 4 feet 9 inches tall must be in a child safety seat or booster seat, effective July 1. Under the booster law, children cannot use a seat belt alone until they are age 8 or 4 feet 9 inches tall — whichever comes first. To ensure child safety, the Minnesota Department of Public Safety (DPS) recommends parents keep children in a booster based on their height, rather than their age," according to a news release.

The Eden Prairie Police Department is obtaining tracking equipment that works with the SAFER program, which offers locater devices for adults and children with special needs who tend to wander from caregivers, according to a news release.
The nonprofit provides the tracking equipment and training. “SAFER also has an emergency response team that responds to calls to assist local first responders in searching for missing children or adults on the SAFER program,” according to a news release. The program also offers support groups.
Someone burglarized Cosi, 12555 Castlemoor Drive, between 4 p.m. June 14 and 7 a.m. June 15. The manager returned in the morning and discovered that the restaurant’s safe, valued at $1000 was missing along with an undisclosed amount of cash. A shared garage door was found propped open, though the manager is sure the building was secure when closed for the night.
THEFT, CRIMINAL DAMAGE
"A 52-year-old Eden Prairie man was sentenced today in federal court in connection with a conspiracy against Medica, which administers the Medicaid public health care benefit program in Minnesota," according to a news release from the U.S. Attorney's office.
On June 18, "U.S. District Court Judge Joan Ericksen sentenced Mohamed Essa to 44 months in prison and three years of supervised release on one count of conspiracy to commit health care fraud and one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering," the release said.

R.E.A.C.H. a Child! - Police partner with organization to give books to children in crisis situations

"Each year, neighborhoods across the country dedicate one summer evening to celebrate and strengthen the commitment to a safe community," according to a city of Eden Prairie news release.

The Minnesota Department of Health sent out this press release on the afternoon of June 15:
The Minnesota Department of Health (MDH) today announced that a Twin Cities area child who was infected with the H1N1 novel influenza virus has died. The child, who had underlying medical conditions, was briefly hospitalized and died late last week. Laboratory tests subsequently determined that the child had the H1N1 novel influenza.
Effective today, "Minnesota’s seat belt law is a primary offense, meaning drivers and passengers in all seating positions must be buckled up or in the correct child restraint. Law enforcement can stop motorists for seat belt violations. A seat belt ticket can cost from $25 to more than $100," according to the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

A late afternoon crash Tuesday on a section of Highway 169 in Eden Prairie left a Minneapolis women dead and two others injured. The crash occurred at around 3 p.m. Tuesday, when a vehicle traveling north on 169 near Pioneer Trail crossed the median and hit another vehicle in the southbound lanes. Elleny Belayneh, 19, a passenger in the vehicle that crossed the median, was killed.
