Four homes were burglarized in Eden Prairie in late August.
EP police reported the following:
Between 12:59 and 6:45 a.m. Aug. 24 someone removed a window in a kitchen of a residence on the 18000 block of Winnfield Road and stole a laptop. The residents were home at the time of the burglary but discovered that the window was open and the laptop stolen the next morning.
CHASKA — A Chaska man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison for violating his probation and failing to register as a predatory offender.
A report of suspicious vehicle led to a lucky catch for Eden Prairie police on Aug. 22. After responding to a call at 4:51 a.m. about a suspicious white van, police came upon a man on the 6900 block of Howard Lane who had burglary tools and stolen property from a Chanhassen residence in his vehicle, according to Eden Prairie Police.
An Eden Prairie man charged with killing his infant son had his arraignment hearing Wednesday at Hennepin County District Court. The hearing had been previously delayed to allow Randel Richardson time to seek an attorney. Richardson, 36, is charged with murder in the first degree after his six-month-old son, Rowan, was found dead July 31 in his Eden Prairie home.
The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is now accepting online applications from people who would like to volunteer for public safety duties at the Sheriff’s Office.
Volunteers are needed in the following areas: Water Patrol Unit, Mounted Patrol, Mobile Amateur Radio Corps and Emergency Squad Unit, according to a news release.

The Minnesota Court of Appeals will hear arguments Wednesday about three motions prosecutors filed in Scott County District Court just prior to the start of Charles Anthony Maddox Jr.’s jury trial for the alleged murder of his estranged wife and Shakopee Valley News reporter, Ruth Anne Maddox.
Someone broke into two businesses at around 4:30 a.m. June 24 at Prairie Village mall, 16532 W. 78th St. Police suspect someone first pried open the door at Freeziac but failed to get into the office safe. From there, the same suspects likely opened the door at Bruegger’s Bagels but left the scene after an alarm went off. No damage estimate was available.
An unrelated burglary occurred at a residence a day later:
The Eden Prairie Police Department is seeking information on addition incidents of vandalism in the city. Last week, it was reported that graffiti had been left on equipment in Franlo Park and Anderson Lakes Parkway. According to Sgt. Bill Wyffels, there were four more incidents of similar graffiti.
“Unfortunately, all these are in parks of the city,” noted Wyffels.

The Eden Prairie Crime Prevention Fund has planned its first Biaggi’s Ristorante fundraiser. The event is set for noon Sunday, May 16, at the restaurant in Eden Prairie Center.
One of the main functions of the Crime Prevention Fund is to provide reward money for the Eden Prairie Police Department. In addition, the fund helps the department purchase some things that are beyond its budget.
“The Eden Prairie Crime Fund is the only organization that directly funds law enforcement programs in the city,” according to information from the group.
