The Academy of Russian Ballet will present a double bill of enormously popular children’s ballets with their imaginative productions of Sergei Prokofiev’s “Peter and the Wolf” and Camille Saen-Saints’ “Carnival of the Animals.” Choreographed by Svetlana Gavrilova and Kirill Bak, these one-act ballets will be performed together on Saturday, May 24th at 2:00 p.m. at Eden Prairie High School.“Peter and the Wolf “ is the tale of a brave little boy, who together with his friend the bird, traps a frightening wolf who is threatening the safety of the village. Musical instruments in the orchestral accompaniment represent each character in the ballet; narration throughout the performance helps the audience follow the story. Likewise, the narrative of “Carnival of the Animals” assists even the youngest audience members in appreciating the delightful dances of kangaroos, elephants, turtles and even the bony fossils. Colorful costumes, inventive choreography and ageless music combine to make ARB’s “Peter and the Wolf” and “The Carnival of the Animals” a memorable experience for theatergoers of all ages.
