Woman dies in Hennepin County jail

A woman died last night at about 8 p.m. in the Hennepin County Jail after being arrested for probable cause DWI at Highway 62 and 34th Avenue South, according to a news release from Hennepin County. The following is the news release: "On April 30, 2008, at approximately 8 pm, an adult female died in the Hennepin County Jail. The female had been arrested by the Minnesota State Patrol for Probable Cause DUI. The arrest occurred at 4:16 pm on April 30th at Highway 62 and 34th Avenue South. "The adult female was transported by the State Patrol to the Hennepin County Jail and processed through booking. She was then placed in a holding cell by herself. A short time later, Deputies checked on the female and found her to be unconscious. First aid was immediately given and paramedics called. The female was unable to be resuscitated and was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics. "The Medical Examiner’s Office will be conducting an autopsy later today. The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office is conducting an internal investigation into this matter. "Our thoughts and prayers are with the family. Please contact the Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office for additional information on the decedent."
