In the Third Congressional District, DFL candidate Ashwin Madia of Plymouth and Republican candidate Erik Paulsen of Eden Prairie were joined in filing for office by Independence candidates David Dillon of Excelsior (endorsed) and Steev Ramsdell of Eden Prairie. Rep. Jim Ramstad, R-Third District, is set to retire.
In Minnesota House District 42A, Rep. Maria Ruud, DFL, of Minnetonka is facing a challenge from DFL-er Daniel Kim of Eden Prairie as well as Republicans Bob House of Minnetonka, Shari May of Minnetonka and Lee Prinkkila of Eden Prairie.
In Minnesota House District 42B, Jenifer Loon, a Republican, and Jerry Pitzrick, DFL, both of Eden Prairie, are running. The seat is being vacated by Erik Paulsen, who is running in the Third Congressional District.
Filing to run in the Hennepin County Commission’s fifth district are current Board Chair Randy Johnson, Carlan Lesch and David Nyberg of Bloomington.
Filing in the county’s sixth district, a seat being vacated by Commissioner Linda Koblick, were Mayor Jan Callison of Minnetonka and John Cooney of Minnetonka, who has been a campaign manager and political director for Ramstad.
Filing closed for county and state offices on Tuesday. Candidates have until Thursday, July 17, to withdraw from the races.
The filing period for the two Eden Prairie City Council positions up for election runs from Aug. 26 to Sept. 9. The seats held by Brad Aho and Sherry Butcher are up for election this year. Both have indicated they will run for re-election.
