Fourth of July events - 2008

Events are set for Friday, July 4, at Round Lake Park, 7550 Constitution Ave.
Information Booth - Park Building Plaza – 8:30 a.m.-9:30 p.m. Event information, ticket sales for carnival games and inflatables, event T-shirt sales ($8), volunteer check in, fishing contest registration, Parks & Recreation information, entertainment & vendor check –in. “Whopper of a Fishing Contest” (register at the information booth) – 9-10:30 a.m. Kids ages 16 and younger can register ($2) all day. Participants must provide their own equipment and bait. Fishing takes place from 9-10:30p.m. Prizes will be awarded at NOON to ages 5 and younger, ages 6-9; 10 – 12 and 13-16 for the longest fish, shortest fish, first catch of the day, and the “Red Light Specials”, announced throughout the contest. Baseball Association “Firecracker Classic” (softball fields) – 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Youth Baseball Association on Field 1, 2, & 3 with a game every 90 minutes. Come out and support our local youth. Sand Volleyball Tournament – 11 a.m.- 6 p.m. Register your team for the Power Division B and Upper C and the Recreational Division D teams. Pool play followed by single round play-offs. T-shirts awarded to 1st place teams in both divisions. Registration fee: $50. Registration Deadline: June 26. Contact Lyndell Frey, Recreation Coordinator at 952-949-8438 or lfrey@edenprairie.org Police Command Van, Beach Parking Lot – 11 a.m. - 8 p.m. Visit with officers and test your knowledge on animal safety or experience fatal vision goggles, which simulate chemical impairment. Park Activities – 11 a.m. – 9 p.m. Take advantage of the park’s amenities including the beach, playground, tennis courts, skate park and sand volleyball courts. They are all available on a first come, first served basis. Concessions & Vendor Booths (Beach Parking Lot) – noon - 10 p.m. Experience all the tastes of State Fair food at your own city’s 4th of July Celebration. Enjoy everything from mini donuts to kabobs, lemonade to frappuccino, and strudel to kettle korn. Plus, visit the booths of community organizations and businesses and get the details on things happening around Eden Prairie.. Kiddie Parade (Eden Prairie Community Center Front Plaza) – 11:30 a.m. Dress up yourself, your wagon, trike, bike and scooter … as we celebrate the 4th of July! Children ages 10 and younger in church groups, with family and friends, clubs, daycares and associations are encouraged to participate. Line up at 11:15 a.m. at the Community Center front plaza. Treat bags will be given to the first 300 kids participating. Jumpasaurus (beach) – noon - 8 p.m. Tickets required K-9 Demo (Field No. 2, Outfield) – 5-5:30 p.m. Sponsored by the Eden Prairie Police. Come and see the K-9 Teams of Brix and Officer Jess Irmiter and Booker and Officer Tim Snetting perform obedience and tactical response. Fun in the Sun Recreational Games (Meet on lawn by information booth) – 5:30-7:30 p.m. Enjoy Recreational Games and Relay Races provided by the Eden Prairie Parks and Recreation summer staff. Activities are appropriate for youth 12 and younger. Parents and families welcome. In case of rain, the fireworks will be rescheduled for July 5 at 10 p.m. Festival of Fun – noon to 3 p.m. and 5-8 p.m. (hockey rink and picnic grove, tickets required for most games) * Carnival game area * Interactive Inflatable Fun – noon-9:30 p.m. * Face Painting – noon-9:30 p.m. * Arts and crafts tent – noon-6 p.m. * Fire Department Squirt House – 1-4 p.m. * Fire Safety House – 1-4 p.m. * Underwater Adventures – 2-5 p.m. Parking and Shuttle Service * Event parking is available at the following locations: Eden Prairie Community Center, Miller Park, Eden Prairie High School and Immanuel Lutheran Church * Shuttle Bus service will run from Miller Park to the Fire Station on Valley View Road. beginning at p.7:30 p.m. until 10 p.m. and again at 10:30 to 11 p.m. The last bus will leave Round Lake Park at 11 pm. * No public parking on the park side except for handicap parking in the north tennis court parking lot. * Valley View Road, from Highway 4 to Hames Way, will be shut down from 8 p.m. to midnight. Firecracker Trivia Hunt Win a pair of tickets to the Chanhassen Dinner Theater, Renaissance Festival, $10 Parks and Recreation Certificates, or Gina Maria’s Pizza gift certificates and 4th of July t-shirts. The Firecracker Trivia Hunt will be published in the Eden Prairie News on June 26 and July 3. Deadline: Entries need to be mailed or hand-delivered to City Center, Parks and Recreation office, 8080 Mitchell Road by July 3 before 4 p.m. or brought to the July 4 information booth at Round Lake Park between 9 and 11 a.m. Winners will be drawn from the correct entries at noon at the main stage at the 4th of July event. (Winners need not be present to win.) Winners’ names will be posted by July 8 on the city’s Web site at www.edenprairie.org and the Eden Prairie News Web site at www.edenprairienews.com. Employees and their families of the city of Eden Prairie and the Eden Prairie News are not eligible.

Volunteers needed Volunteer to help with any of the following: Event set-up, youth fishing contest, information booth, Kiddie parade, carnival games or arts and crafts. Not only is this an opportunity to get involved, you will also receive VIP Parking as well as a free T-shirt. Volunteers are needed for a minimum of two hours.
