Eden Prairie City Council meets Oct. 7

A workshop on emergency preparedness planning in Heritage Rooms of Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road, starts for council members at 5 p.m., but normally discussions on topics don’t begin until about 5:30 p.m. Regular council meeting begins at 7 p.m. in Council Chamber. Residents can discuss city business with council members during the city’s open forum from 6:30 p.m. to 6:50 p.m., and open podium from 6:50 to 7 p.m. Those who wish to take part in the open forum need to contact the city manager’s office (949-8412) by noon the day of the meeting.

Southwest Corridor Transportation Coalition town hall

The Southwest Corridor Transportation Coalition is hosting a town hall meeting regarding highway and transit issues in Carver County. The agenda will include information on Highway 212, Highway 5 and Southwest Metro Transit service. The meeting is from 7-9 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 7, at the Chaska Community Center, Community Room, 1661 Park Ridge Drive, Chaska.

Speakers will include local government officials, area legislators and representatives from organizations including Bob Stevens, President of Ridgeview Hospital in Waconia.

The meeting is free and open to the public.

A CD Release Concert for "Reflections...songs for the heart and soul" by Mary Beth Carlson and Mark David Williams with guest instrumentalists is set for 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 10.

The Eden Prairie Human Rights and Diversity Commission and Community Education are co-sponsoring three guided tours to congregations representing Eden Prairie’s religiously diverse community. Each of the tours will culminate with a hospitality time with a light beverage and snack including a time for questions.
These events will culminate with the All City Third Annual Interfaith Thanksgiving service in November.
The first tour is to the Hindu Temple of Minnesota

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service and the Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge Trust will celebrate the completion of the Rapids Lake Unit of Minnesota Valley National Wildlife Refuge from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 19. Festivities will include the dedication of the new Education and Visitor Center, educational activities for all ages, demonstrations and self-led tours.

The Hennepin County Board, acting as the Hennepin County Regional Railroad Authority, has scheduled three scoping meetings to receive public comment on the Draft Environmental Impact Statement for the Southwest Transitway proposed light-rail line from Eden Prairie to downtown Minneapolis:
* 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 23, at Eden Prairie City Hall, 8080 Mitchell Road.

A meeting was also planned for 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 14, at St. Louis Park City Hall, 5005 Minnetonka Blvd.
