My fiance had his passenger car window smashed in and his cheapie stereo stolen from his car late last fall. It sucked and from what the repair place said, it looked like it was someone who knew what they were doing.

Person crimes: decreased 3 percent in 2007
Property crimes: increased 21 percent in 2007
Traffic related offenses: increased 28 percent in 2007
Total calls for service: increased 11 percent
Juvenile status offenses: decreased 34 percent

Other notable changes:
Instances of criminal sexual conduct went from 26 in 2006 to 18 in 207, a decrease of 31 percent
Instances of robbery went from 20 in 2006 to 13 in 2007, a decrease of 35 percent
Residential burglaries went from 112 in 2006 to 144 in 2007, an increase of 29 percent

This is a very tragic and well-written story. My prayers are with this family during their time of loss. It is always difficult to talk with family members after the loss of a child, but this reporter handled a difficult situation with compassion and caring. It is evident in the quotes and comments received from the family.

Another trend: Atleast once a month, I see a report about stolen catalytic converters. According to the Institute of Scrap Recycling Industries Inc., "a stolen catalytic converter can mean repair costs of up to $2,000 for an individual car owner depending on the make and model of the automobile."

The new fire station has a very interesting design, reminscent of older East Coast fire stations. Kudos! I wonder, however, how folks living near stations such as the one near Homeward Hills and Sunnybrook roads feel. That southeast-Eden Prairie fire station is gray and basic, with little of the architectural flair of the new station along Dell Road. Functional, yes; a neighborhood amenity from the aesthetic point of new, hardly. Of course, I would defer to residents who actually live closest to the Homeward Hills-Sunnybrook station a block north of Pax Christi Church. Comments?
