Reform Republicans

Reform Republicans First?

Rep. Erik Paulsen sponsored a bill in 2001 to ban PAC contributions. In the press release, he stated:
"Eliminating PAC contributions will restore integrity to the political process and give citizens the confidence that their voice is more important than special interests groups. We must act to negate the very perception that special interest money controls the way our government is run."
http://www.house.leg.state.mn.us/GOP/goppress/Paulsen/0321epPACban.htm

Now, this year, Rep. Paulsen has accepted contributions from PAC. What changed from 2001 to this year? Is he strong enough to say no to demands of special interests?

With the VP choice of Gov. Sarah Palin, one claimed to have stood up to corruption within the Alaska Republican Party, Republicans now embrace “reform” as their message to Americans. One must ask: Will Rep. Erik Paulsen be among the reformers of the Republican Party? Or does he need reform?

Madia: Fiscal Conservative, Social Moderate.

It is clear that Erik Paulsen will NOT follow in the footsteps of Congressman Ramstad. Here’s why…

The people of the Third Congressional District have supported Congressman Ramstad because of his moderate positions on social issues. Do you really expect them to veer to the far-right now?

Erik Paulsen’s track record:

Accepted $107,000 from Corporate PACs, after previously proposing to ban PAC contributions.

Supports “Drill Here, Drill Now” as part of his energy policy.
