Put me in (balance), coach

» Read similar stories filed under:

When you think of the word “coach,” what often comes to mind is the person who leads your favorite sports teams – the coach of your child’s soccer squad, for example, or Vikings head coach Brad Childress.

But Chere Bork, who recently spoke to the Eden Prairie (A.M.) Rotary Club, is a different kind of coach. She is what’s known as a wellness coach, or life balance coach.Chere BorkChere Bork

Do you need a 25-hour day to get your “to-do” list done? Do you want to be happy before you finish your “to-do” list? Are you sick and tired of being “sick and tired”? These are the kinds of life, health and work-balance issues that Chere works on with clients, day in and day out.

Her clients are most often adults – many of them busy, overworked executives – who want to maximize their energy and find greater balance between family and work responsibilities. Her work often consists of helping these clients pinpoint what it is they are trying to achieve, then giving them the tools, resources and accountability structure to reach those goals.

For example, everyone in daily life encounters “energy chargers” and “energy drains.” Exercise is an energy charger. Eating food that is not good for you is an energy drain. Certainly we’d all like our energy chargers to outnumber our energy drains. Folks like Chere are educated and trained to help.

It’s no surprise in this hectic, suburban world we’ve chosen that an industry designed to help us cope has sprung up. If you would like more information on how a coach can affect your life, health and work balance, check out Chere Bork’s Web site: www.cherecoach.com.

(Rotary Rooter focuses on the activities of the Eden Prairie A.M. Rotary Club, which meets at 7:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Biaggi's restaurant at Eden Prairie Shopping Center. Guests are welcome. You can learn more about the club by visiting www.epamrotary.)
