Leapin’ lizards, is anyone feeding those kids from Loudi, China?
The 18 visiting students, their English teacher and their school’s vice-principal were guests at this morning’s breakfast meeting of the Eden Prairie (A.M.) Rotary Club, and I’ve never seen plates heaped so high with rolls, fruit, eggs, potatoes, sausage and bacon.

And what a great bunch of kids they are! Each student stood and talked briefly about his or her experiences in Eden Prairie. Their English was impressive.
More than one of them noted that student visits of this type can be a bridge between two very different countries and cultures. That’s spot-on!
And, most of them also talked about being impressed by the Eden Prairie “environment” – the green grass, trees, flowers and lakes. And the rabbits. Lots of rabbits.
If you have visited with or hosted any members of the student delegation from Loudi during their two-week stay, please offer a comment or story about your experience.
(Rotary Rooter focuses on the activities of the Eden Prairie A.M. Rotary Club, which meets at 7:30 a.m. Tuesdays at the Biaggi's restaurant at Eden Prairie Shopping Center. Guests are welcome. You can learn more about the club by visiting www.epamrotary.)

Back to page topI had the pleasure of serving as the only foreign middle school English teacher in Loudi (娄底) this past year ... and I can definitely agree that the students in that community in China are remarkable. They embraced my teaching, invited me into their homes, and helped to teach me their language and culture throughout the year. I am so glad to see that some of them were able to travel to America to see my culture firsthand as well!
I would be very interested to find out more about the program that brought these students to Eden Prarie and connect with the organizers of that trip. Thanks!
