Look at EP's Town Center future
December 13, 2007 - 12:59pm — Leah Shaffer
Eden Prairie’s town center is a number of years in the making. But, residents will see the beginnings of that work as the current Windsor Plaza project (that includes mixed use retail, office) gets finished up within the next year. Add to that, Eden Prairie city staff have been working on a town center streetscape master plan for the past year. People had a first look at those plans last month during two meetings held at Eden Prairie Center. Residents can get another look at the guidelines at the City Council Workshop, at 5 p.m. Dec. 18, at the Heritage rooms of the city center. The town center would be a subset of the Major Center Area, the part of Eden Prairie that encircles Eden Prairie Center, specifically, the Town Center area is bordered by Technology Drive, Prairie Center Drive, and Flying Cloud Drive. Intersecting the town center area is Single Tree Lane. Ideally, the future of this mishmash of roads and business would be a new street system that resembles more of a pedestrian-friendly, grid based street system, a mix of retail and residential akin to an area like Excelsior and Grand in St. Louis Park.
