A Long Process Comes to an End and Begins

A long process comes to an end: At last night’s Council Meeting the City Council approved the purchase of a new fully integrated suite of software to update our Computer Aided Dispatch product, our Records Management Systems and support state-of-the art in-field reporting and ticket processing. This system is going to be a huge technological upgrade from our current police and fire systems that are a series of software systems that are hung together by special code written to make them hang together, not a great way to do business. The process to acquire a state-of-the-art system began more than a year ago with the selection of a team of dedicated people to analyze exactly what the needs were of every stakeholder. I cannot thank all of those involved enough for their time, energy and dedication to the process.

A long process begins: Now that the contract has been awarded for the new system a long process is beginning to get all of the stuff done and figured out as the implementation of a new way of doing business begins. The implementation process will begin in January and we can all expect it to last well into 2009. No doubt there will be bumps along the way, but once implemented this new suite of products will change the way we do business, particularly when it comes to sharing valuable information between fire and police personnel on-scene and in real time. Firefighter and Officer safety will be greatly enhanced by virtue of this new suite of products and the way they are going to be implemented.

I am looking forward to seeing the new system in action and experiencing the many benefits that are awaiting us. Thank you to everybody that had a part in this selection process, and thank you to the City Council for their vision in approving the new system last night!
